for the southern illinois midwest area, cornhole is something you play at festivals. we had a neighbor who had a set, but its kinda rare to get it out and play unless its 4th of july or something. its also really common at, like, outdoor bars (idk what else to call it, 4204 has one around here)

In South Africa, the value of the houses and land all depend on the economy and the area in which the land or house is. For example, a house in Pretoria - one of our main cities - will go for more than 1 million Rand, and that is in a complex, not even your own land or house. Another example is that my childhood home was between a primary and high school and yet it went for less than 2 million Rand because it was sold in a market that is in the buyer's favour and not in the selller's favour.

I live in a Chicago suburb a little ways into Indiana. Around two years ago, my wife and I bought a home here. We're on 1/3 acre wooded lot, with about 1200 square feet of space (3 bed, 2 bath, big living room, kitchen and dining room that could be bigger, decent laundry room, one car garage that's long enough for some work/storage space). We paid a whopping $127,000 for our home. Compared to housing prices in Japan, I'd say we got one hell of a good deal!

I live in Boise, Idaho. The market has grown so much here. A lot of people from the west coast like California and Oregon are come here. Any land that is put up for sell. In weeks its sold and construction for a new neighborhood is starting. Apartments are so expensive they are hitting the 1100s for a 2 bedroom. And for our area that's expensive. Luckily the new amazon warehouse just started hiring.

My husband and I are about your age and we just bought a house about 70 miles west of DC. We got 1700 sqft and .5 acres for 220k, but at the cost of moving to a much more rural area than I'm used to. As an american that grew up in the city, I don't like being off public water/sewage and I don't like hauling my own trash. We moved to a river community, so at the least, all we had to worry about was flood zones. It would suck to have a real estate search like yours when our budget was considered too small for northern virginia as it was.

Jun and Rachel, I live in Southern California about half-way between Palm Springs and Los Angeles. Our home is 1,200 sq ft. We bought it for $79K and the value has quadrupled. The land around the homes is deemed "common ground" so we cannot do what we want with the land. But we have a screened atrium in the middle of the house for entertaining.

Rachel I kinda feel like you’re asking for too much with the larger kitchen.. I understand having an open American style kitchen, but 3 people cooking? That’s not your typical fare by any means and your budget will be more than sated by the other things you guys need in a house. I’d think about letting the ‘big kitchen’ dream die. Just an opinion ☺️ love your vids (and your cats)

I live in Florida. Our home, built in 1989 and has 1.25 acre of land, has increased in value since we purchased it in 2013. My husband is REALLY happy because I INSISTED we renovate the kitchen and family room to make a more 'open' floor plan. In Florida, sunshine is NOT at a premium. The sun shines ALL the time and it's hot all the time. Our a/c is on 9-11 months of the year. But, like California, almost every home has a pool, so that makes it better.

We bought a row house in the centre of the universe (Toronto, Canada) in Sept 2001 (I know I know) for $218.000. The bones of the houses are about 100 years old. My house is 15’ x 45/50’ +a garage with a tiny yard in between= 120’ long. 2 floors+basement. The houses now go for over a million. But what is happening now is that as the houses are sold they are being extensively renovated (99% demolished)to get the biggest house on the space. This happened on my street and the house sold for 2M!!! And the garages turned into lane way suites (which I would love to do!). Land in Toronto just goes up up up in price. We only bought because the rent was the same as a mortgage payment. We were 30 and no one else was buying a house. Now our friends are getting ‘renovicted’ and have to move outside of the city to find affordable housing. That’s my house story.

I've been looking at the housing and real estate videos backwards so I've come here from beginning with the video where you have now bought land. It was great to see Japanese housing and how houses are built there. I am in Canada. Prices are (mostly) a lot higher here than in Cincinnati but I think prices in Japan are about the same or higher still. I'm glad you found a place to start with. Very interesting that a house in Japan loses value. Here, as in the US, it would only lose value that way if there were a fire, some sort of disaster, a lot of asbestos would be a problem, or a house which had been a rental or otherwise destroyed or extremely neglected to the point of falling down. Sad that there would be so few historical homes in Japan. Ironic that the history is so much longer there but there must be a lot more old homes in North America, and Europe. I wonder if South America would also be like Japan that way. Thank you for your housing videos. I don't think someone who only knows English would be able to find/ read house listings online in Japan just for curiousity.

We live NC, US. Here the average house is around 2000sq ft and runs $150-$200/sq. Land is anywhere from $8k/acre up. If you live in the city it is $35-$50k for a little less than 1/2 acre. If it weren't for the small land size I would love to build one of our retirement homes in Japan, well that and the money to fly back and forth. xD.

If our economy crashes then apartment and house prices would decrease. Maybe even lower from bought price. Right now normal houses 150 m2 and land about 2000m2 are 200 000 eur. These are near city and new houses. Estonian average salary is 1500 eur. So you can't afford really the new house because the loan payment in month is about 700 eur.

I look at those nice looking homes in America and think about why California does not have that kind of price compared to the rest of the states. California is do expensive man. My parents house costs like $600,000 when we were trying to sell it and it took forever for someone to finally consider in buying it. That is until they found out about fire damage and they bailed out. My house looks shit. Well kinda not really. Its just not nice looking compared to the nice model family homes with large kitchen. If I remember, I think our house use to cost between 300,000 and 400,000 back when it was just a one story house with 2 small bedrooms. It looked really nice though and had a cozy cabin feel with the brick electric fire place and green wall paper and built in shelves and wood paneling. The old living room is now demolished to make a new living room and an upstairs bed room and is painted white. Same with the kitchen, painted whitish or a lighter cream color but got a new island. I feel that the cost mostly had to do with the amount of bedrooms or something
